Community Policing focuses on the Police
being proactive in delivering the services and having increased interface of the
Police with community. It is true example of police public partnership where
citizens have been empowered with the help of the police. Thus community
policing is an effective answer to a complex situation.
Having been influenced with the concept of community policing and to
provide a human face to the force, a CRPC system comprising all the services at
a single platform was set up in the Punjab police in the month of February 2003.
The community Policing Centre is an autonomous registered society in partnership
with representatives of the police, the administration and the civil society.
The Community Policing resource Centre is collectively managed by the Community
and the Police. The services, which the people can have from the CRPC, are
detailed below:-

- Foreigners Counter
- Passport Verification
- NOC for Arms License
- Permission for Religious/Political Procession
- Permission for use of Loud Speaker etc.
- Charter/Service Verification
- Verification of Registering of Vehicles
- Verification of Tenants
- Registration of Servants
- Other Verifications
- Human Rights Complaint Counter
- Information Cell under Right to Information Act.

It has been proposed to extend the
community Police resources centre to 76 sub Divisions and 277 Police tations in
the state of Punjab in the 2nd phase and 3rd phase respectively. These centers
will thereafter be renamed as Community Policing Suvidha Centers (CPSCs). |
